The Company

A woman whose tireless spirit and deep love for this land are inspiring. Auntie Maria Luísa, synonymous with tenacity and resilience, is a true force of nature. Her joy and passion for the land continue to guide us and enrich our work every day.She learned to bake bread at a very young age, but it was only after the creation of the Geopark that she gained international fame as the “baker of Lagoa” who welcomes and encourages visitors to knead for the wood-fired oven, which also smells of wedges, doughnuts and kneaded balls.Auntie Maria Luísa is a “treasure” of this land, a guardian of knowledge and memories that she shares with visitors.

The Product

The wheat produced in the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark, in a territory where there is no abundance of fertile land, is cultivated in “schist” rocks that, in the past, were formed on the bottom of the sea and that, due to the action of the forces of nature, in the days of today, they are on the surface. This wheat, which results in the flour used in our cuisine, has the advantage of resisting climate change and drought, and in addition, its root system allows it to seek nutrients from the earth in depth, through cracks in the rock.
