GRUTAS DEL PALACIO UNESCO  GEOPARK PRESENT  THE PROGRESS WITHIN THE GEOfood PROGRAM IN KUTRALKURA UNESCO GEOPARK SYMPOSIUM

Between January 27 and 29, 2022, the IV Symposium on Geoparks and Geotourism in Chile was held in Temuco, region of La Araucanía, organized by the UNESCO World Geopark Kutralkura in double face-to-face and virtual modality.

This event is part of relevant activities that seek to strengthen the Geopark agenda, its scientific dissemination, the exchange of knowledge and experiences with the projects and Geoparks of Chile, Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the 27th and 28th, presentations were made on different dimensions of life and the scientific research that takes place in the Geoparks, while on the 29th, field trips were made to sites of the GMU Kutralkura, possessor of a geological, natural and cultural value.

In this instance, the General Coordinator of the  Grutas del Palacio UNESCO Global Geopark Eugenio Bidondo and the Bachelor of Geology Helga Chulepin, Member of the UNESCO World Geoparks Council, spoke. They presented the vision of development of the Geopark, providing details of the work process that has been carried out within the framework of the implementation of the  GEOfood Program , in the department of Flores.

In October 2020, the only Uruguayan Geopark signed an agreement with the Magma UNESCO Global Geopark who is the promoter of this program whose objective is the search for sustainable development related to food production.

The presentation detailed the work carried out by a multidisciplinary team of scientists together with local geoproduct entrepreneurs and members of the Geopark staff for the implementation of the  GEOfood brand,  as well as the link established with the research work within the framework of the IGCP 726 project.

The enterprises Sabores del Geoparque, Cuatro de Julia, Quesería N 51, Miel El Tano, and Quesería Chacra Lomas del Refugio participated in promotion, research, and dissemination actions until the stories that link the products with the geological, natural, and culture of the territory

Based on the guidelines that have been generated within the framework of the IGCP 726 project, field work, bibliographic compilation, interviews with each of the entrepreneurs were carried out, identifying characteristics of the place, production process, etc. The stories required by the GEOfood brand  .

The use of the GEOfood brand in these products is added to the brand previously generated by Grutas del Palacio UGGp: the Seal of the “Land of the Geopark” granted by the Departmental Government of Flores

The work process continues to comply with all the provisions that the  GEOfood program implies, implementation of the brand in each of the products, use of the same based on the manual that provides all the characteristics of the use of the logo, diffusion, etc.
