This year’s motto is GEOfood.

And the Burren Slow Food Festival is the official launch of the GEOfood in the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark!

What is GEOfood?

It is a global brand that distinguishes food grown or produced within or adjacent to a UNESCO Global Geopark, like the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark. GEOfood has to originate within the geographic region of a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The aim of the programme is to encourage local producers to produce and sell more of their own grown or fished products within a specific region; to promote local food, and improve the local economy; to improve health, reduce food miles and generate employment.

The origin of the food is verified and is distinguished with a brand. It links consumers directly to the place of origin of the food.

We think that it ties very closely in with the principles of Slow Food, and adds another dimension to the discussion of honest, locally produced and healthy foods.
