The Produce
Be Alva is a rural tourism establishment located at Quinta da Várzea, Caldas de São Paulo, in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital. The entreprise was born from the restoration of an old granite manor house on the banks of the Alva River and preserves two traditional water-powered mills used for grinding cereals and producing flour. More than just accommodation, it aims to provide experiences. To this end, they take advantage of the local resources available. On a property of approximately 20 hectares, they have a herd of goats that respects animal comfort and dignity and provides milk for cheese making, an extensive orchard of São Bartolomeu pear trees and an area of chestnut trees for the production of chestnuts under organic farming practices, as well as about 100 beehives for honey production.
Product
The dried pear is a typical product of this region, resulting from the sun-drying of São Bartolomeu pears produced on the farm and processed artisanally, without dyes or preservatives. This product also serves as raw material for the production of a liqueur and a brandy. The honey comes from beehives located on the property and is multifloral. It is sold in different glass jar formats.
