Casa da Nogueira

Country: Portugal

The Producer

Casa da Nogueira takes its name from the presence of the walnut tree, unique and overlooking the main house of Quinta de S. Miguel, where it is located, in the municipality of Guarda. The estate covers an area of approximately 150 hectares and was formerly a chestnut grove, later transformed into an orchard, from which came the best examples of apples, cherries, and peaches in this region. A stream runs through the estate, making the meadows productive and the landscape pleasant. Currently, it is a farm dedicated to agricultural and livestock activities, such as beef cattle production and the raising of laying hens outdoors for egg production, and olive growing for the production of olives for olive oil.

Producers

From the vegetable garden and fruit trees, the surplus is used for the artisanal production of jams and preserves under the Casa da Nogueira brand. Clara Quinaz, who oversees production, uses no preservatives, no colorings, no gelling agents. Instead, she innovates by combining fruits and vegetables, adding only natural flavorings such as cinnamon and ginger. Examples include pumpkin and cinnamon jam, tomato and Reinette apple jam, and strawberry and ginger jam.
