Saimaa is a treasure of Eastern Finland known for its beautiful landscapes, lively towns and idyllic villages. The Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark brings together Saimaa’s magnificent natural sites, charming hiking trails and historic cultural sites, which nature tourists should definitely experience when visiting Saimaa. Through breathtaking sites and unique landscapes, Saimaa Geopark tells the story of the birth of Saimaa in a whole new way.
The waters, forests and nature formations of Lake Saimaa originated millions of years ago and have evolved over time to their current splendour. Saimaa Geopark tells the story of the Saimaa labyrinthine waters from its origins to the present day. The geology is directly reflected in the shapes of the area, and Saimaa’s unique sites bring the story to life and make it visible to today’s hikers.
One of the newest GEOfood – partners in Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark, welcoming you to their Waffle Café at Tiittala Manor. Here you can taste a piece of the unique nature and cultural heritage of Sulkava and Lake Saimaa. With us, every bite tells a story!
At the heart of our Tiittala Manor’s Waffle Café’s waffles or dishes are the ingredients, which come from local producers. Wheat flour from Rapio Mill’s stone mill and free-range eggs from Muurahaismäki Farm.
The classic of sweet waffles – the Strawberry Waffle – is topped with fresh strawberries from anearby Kulmala farm or traditional strawberry jam from their berries, paired with our house-made creamy vanilla ice cream.
For a more savory appetite, we offer a salty waffle filled with the fresh caught Kalakontti smoked vendace from the close, Saimaa pure and nearby waters.
