GEOfood UNESCO Support: A new chapter for GEOfood
We are delighted to share some truly exciting news: the UNESCO support has brought new international visibility and recognition to our initiative. This recognition is an important milestone for GEOfood and a source of great pride for everyone involved. UNESCO’s support represents meaningful acknowledgement of the work we have been carrying out for more than 15 years to promote sustainable food systems, local food heritage, territorial identity, and the important connections between food, people, culture, geology, and the places where we live.

15 years of GEOfood: a journey built together
For the past 15 years, GEOfood has grown through the commitment and collaboration of people, communities, organizations, producers, researchers, educators, and institutions who share a common belief: local food is much more than what we eat. It is part of our identity, our culture, our landscapes, our economies, and our relationship with the territory. Over the years, the GEOfood network has created opportunities to exchange knowledge, develop innovative projects, support local producers, raise awareness about sustainable food systems, and strengthen the relationship between communities and their local resources. This journey has only been possible because so many people have believed in the GEOfood concept and contributed their time, knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience. We would therefore like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported GEOfood during these 15 years. Every collaboration, project, event, idea, partnership, and conversation has helped shape GEOfood and bring the initiative to where it is today.
From recognition to action
We see this UNESCO support not as the conclusion of a journey, but as the beginning of a new chapter. The increased international visibility gives us new energy and, at the same time, a greater responsibility to continue developing the initiative. We are already working on the next steps, with the ambition to expand the GEOfood network, strengthen international cooperation, develop new projects, and support territories in building more sustainable and resilient food systems. There is still so much to do — and we believe that collaboration is the key.
