The product
Hiyung Chili (Capsicum frutescens) is a distinctive chili variety native to Hiyung Village, Tapin Regency, and is recognized as one of the hottest chilies in Indonesia. Its uniqueness lies not only in its exceptional pungency but also in the natural environment where it is cultivated. Hiyung Chili is grown on wetlands that were formed through natural geological processes over thousands of years, creating soils rich in organic matter and essential nutrients. Combined with abundant water resources and the tropical climate of Kalimantan, these conditions produce larger chilies with an intense level of heat, making Hiyung Chili as one of Indonesia’s spiciest chili varieties. For the people of Hiyung Village, Hiyung Chili is more than an agricultural commodity—it is a symbol of local identity and an important source of livelihood. The cultivation knowledge, passed down through generations, reflects the community’s local wisdom in sustainably utilizing and preserving the unique wetland landscape.
