The producer

Berkah Kopi Tapin is one of the GEOfood products within the Meratus UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) that has been independently developed by the Baru Muncul Farmer Group (Kelompok Tani Baru Muncul) led by Hartanto since 2019 for the cultivation of Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) and Liberica coffee (Coffea liberica). The growing interest and demand in coffee have encouraged local farmers to develop more structured and sustainable cultivation practices to enhance the economic value of their products and improve community livelihoods. This potential has attracted support from both the government and private sectors through various collaborative initiatives aimed at business development. Such support has strengthened production facilities and continuously improved coffee processing quality. In addition, to producing green coffee beans and ground coffee, Berkah Kopi Tapin has also diversified into a range of value-added coffee products. These efforts have enhanced the competitiveness of local products, expanded market access, and generated sustainable economic benefits for communities within the Meratus UNESCO Global Geopark.

The product

Located in Asam Randah Village, Tapin Regency, within the Meratus UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp), Berkah Kopi Tapin is cultivated on mineral-rich soils that produce coffee with a strong aroma and distinctive flavor. The coffee is grown at an altitude of 200–250 meters above sea level (masl) using environmentally friendly farming practices, from cultivation through post-harvest processing. Coffee husks and spent coffee grounds are recycled into compost and used as organic fertilizer to maintain soil fertility, reduce agricultural waste, and support a sustainable production system. More than just a coffee product, Berkah Kopi Tapin represents the rich geological landscape of the Meratus region, the local wisdom in managing natural resources, and the community’s commitment to preserving the environment while promoting sustainable livelihoods.
