Educational Programme “GEOfood: sustainable food in Portuguese UNESCO Global Geoparks”
The Educational Programme “GEOfood: sustainable food in Portuguese UNESCO Global Geoparks” is a common initiative of Portuguese Geoparks, has been officially presented during the World Food Day.
It focuses on environmentally-friendly agriculture and healthy food. The activity highlights the connection between specific GEOfood products and the unique local geology where they are produced, with an emphasis on the sustainable development of the territories and the United Nations Agenda 2030.
The target group of this Educational Programme is Primary School students (6-10 years old) and it can be carried out by the teachers in their classes or by the Geopark’s teams.
The Programme is organized in two sessions that cover topics such as natural, cultural and historical heritage, soils, water, landscape and reliefs, climate, local products, and traditional practices in all the Portuguese UGGps, within the national curriculum and educational guidelines of the Ministry of Education. There are digital educational resources (videos and exercises) available online.
