Located in the municipality of Lagoa Nova, territory of the Seridó UNESCO Global Geopark, Quinta da Serra is a producer of free-range eggs that benefits from the mild climate conditions favored by the flat top relief of Serra de Santana.
The vegetation of Serra de Santana is typical of the Caatinga, the only exclusively Brazilian biome, with a predominance of xerophytic plants, which have adapted to the arid climate conditions. Among the most common species are cacti, bromeliads and small trees, such as baraúna, aroeira. Some areas of the mountain also have transitional vegetation between the Caatinga and the Atlantic Forest, with a predominance of some fruitful specimens characteristic of the agreste, such as cashew trees, forage cultivated in rainfed areas with a high protein and energy content such as moringas, brachiaria and grasses, tubers such as cassava and their parts aerial plants, in addition to legumes such as pigeon pea, broad bean, purslane, piaba (Richardia grandiflora), all associated with the feeding of our free-range birds, providing an interesting mix of nutrients for their diet.
The care starts when the chicks arrive at the farm with just one day of hatching. Here they find the clean, warm and cozy nursery; quality food and fresh drinking water. Also, that’s when we start the vaccine protocol required by law, ensuring they grow strong and healthy. This phase is fundamental for the development of birds and is reflected throughout their lives.
Until adulthood, the chickens remain free from cages, walk and graze in a fenced area to ensure their safety, cluck freely and bathe in the sun and sand. It is in the covered, spacious and ventilated shed that they drink water, and where we offer 100% vegetable, natural, balanced food free of chemical dyes, all prepared by our hands, guaranteeing them the desired nutrition to live healthy and produce quality eggs.
It is also in the shed that they lay their eggs, in covered and regularly sanitized nests, to keep the eggs always clean. In addition, the eggs are not washed so that the natural protective layer expelled by the hen is preserved, guaranteeing them more integrity and greater durability. When the day falls, the corner on the perch is the preferred place to sleep, observing the natural hierarchy and social organization imposed by the roosters. The eight hours of sleep they need to rest are strictly respected.
At dawn, the roosters sing announcing that everything is fine and that a new day will begin! They are essential for the physical and emotional safety of the chickens, so they are welcome here, and they are always with them. In addition to all these precautions, our birds do not receive any type of growth and productivity inducer, medicine or antibiotics. In their place, we adopt prophylactic treatments with phytotherapy and vaccines.
Our main concern is the well-being of our birds. The nutritious, natural, fresh and delicious eggs that arrive at your table are the result of our permanent care and affection for them. And what moves us is to offer you and our whole family a food that, in addition to being complete by nature, is really natural and healthy.
